Honoring the Life and Legacy of Larry J. Hoffman

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Larry J. Hoffman, a beloved Miami leader, Mosaic Miami Silver Medallion honoree, visionary attorney, philanthropist, and passionate supporter of the arts and education.

As a founding force behind Greenberg Traurig, Larry helped shape what would become one of the most prominent law firms in the world. His true legacy lives in the people and institutions he uplifted. He led with humility and purpose throughout his life.

Alongside his wife Debi, also a Silver Medallion, Larry shared a lifelong commitment to giving back. Their support of the University of Miami School of Law, including the Hoffman Forum and the Larry J. Hoffman Greenberg Traurig Business of Law Chair, has championed dialogue, justice, and progress across disciplines.

Philanthropy is a family affair. Their son Ken Hoffman is a SIlver Medallion honoree, longtime board member and past chair of Mosaic Miami, and he and his wife Hillary continue the family’s tradition of service and leadership in the community.

Larry’s life reminds us that greatness is not just about what you build. It is also about how you build it, with vision, integrity, and care for others.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Debi, Ken, Hillary, and the entire Hoffman family. May his memory continue to be a source of strength and inspiration.

Sincerely,

Matthew Anderson & Mosaic Miami’s Board of Directors

This August, we were honored to gather at Florida International University’s Department of Religious Studies, where our discussion fostered mutual understanding, deeper connections, and collaboration across diverse religious traditions.

View our MetroTown Recap Newsletter

MetroTown is Mosaic Miami’s flagship leadership camp for high school students across South Florida. Created from the NCCJ AnyTown program and reimagined for Miami’s deep cultural community, MetroTown brings together a diverse group of young people to build trust, deepen empathy, and discover their voice as leaders. In a city as dynamic and divided as Miami, opportunities for young people from different backgrounds to connect, collide, and learn from one another are rare. MetroTown creates that space, growing the cultural competencies, confidence, and compassion that Miami’s next generation needs to lead. Throughout the week, delegates engage in immersive, dialogue-driven activities that explore identity, self-awareness, and civic responsibility. From learning nonviolent communication to practicing inclusive leadership, MetroTown is where future changemakers are born.

Honoring the Legacy of Robert Josefsberg

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Robert “Bob” Josefsberg, a brilliant attorney, principled advocate, and compassionate voice for justice whose impact shaped Miami’s civic and legal landscape for more than six decades.

A longtime partner at Podhurst Orseck, Bob was known not only for his legal mastery but for his deep compassion and humility. He fought for fairness, stood up for the underdog, mentored rising leaders, and led with quiet strength.

In recognition of his extraordinary service, Bob was honored with Mosaic Miami’s Silver Medallion Humanitarian Award, our community’s highest civic distinction. He was, in every sense, a mensch in all the right ways: wise, generous, deeply decent, and wholly committed to making the world better for others.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory be a blessing and a reminder of the power of a life well-lived.

Statement from Mosaic Miami’s Clergy Dialogue on Alligator Alcatraz

At Mosaic Miami, we believe that the moral character of a community is revealed by how it treats the most vulnerable. For 90 years, we’ve brought people together across lines of faith and background to build a more just, compassionate, and united Miami.

Today, we are compelled to speak out about the troubling conditions at the immigrant detention center now known as “Alligator Alcatraz,” a remote and heavily secured facility deep in the Florida Everglades. Reports from this site describe conditions that fall far short of basic standards of care and decency.

Let us be clear: this is not a debate about border policy or political ideology. This is about human dignity. Every person, regardless of where they come from, deserves to be treated with compassion, fairness, and respect. What is happening at Alligator Alcatraz violates those fundamental values.

We stand with the Mosaic Miami Clergy Dialogue, the nation’s longest-standing interfaith coalition, uniting Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and other religious leaders in shared purpose. While our theologies may differ, our moral imperative is the same: to speak out against injustice and to uphold the dignity of every human being.

We are committed to creating a community where empathy guides policy, and where all people are seen as neighbors, not strangers. The immigrant experience is woven into our city’s story, and into many of our own. We cannot turn away.

We urge our fellow Miamians, and all who care about justice, to join us in raising their voices. We must demand transparency, accountability, and above all, humanity.
