Mosaic Miami:
The Art of Conversation Understanding Perspective
Our Journey from MCCJ to Mosaic Miami
In 1935, less than 40 years after the founding of the City of Miami, a group of our city’s leaders came together to establish what has been known through much of our history as the Miami Coalition of Christians and Jews, or MCCJ.
From battling racism as an interfaith group in the 1930s to supporting equality during the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s to helping our community heal from the turbulence of the 1980s, all the way through today’s many challenges, our organization has led the way in times when our city has most needed a voice for understanding, respect, and compassion.
We challenge our community to engage in dialogue, create programs that empower our youth and emerging leaders, sponsor often difficult conversations, and leverage our deep connection to Miami’s business, political, religious, and other community leaders—all to ensure that our city continues to be a place of opportunity for all.
Today, in recognition of our expanding mission, we become Mosaic Miami. Adopting a new name reflects our city’s vibrance, while remaining rooted in our history, honoring the legacy of Silver Medallion honorees, and forever committing to our mission to embrace all of our differences in order to build a united, stronger, and more resilient Miami.
